Sunday Snippet: Crafts, Crafts, More Crafts…

December 22nd, 2010 · 16 Comments

A couple of months ago I posted a GiveAway Book called Games, Games, Games… and if you have ever found yourself face to face with more than a handful of kids to keep busy for an hour or two at Friday night club or to take a Sunday School Class at the last minute… then this is the book for you. I remember thinking at the time: Wouldn’t it be great if there was a craft book just like the Game one!!!” Well, there is!!! And here it is… to GiveAway!!! crafts, crafts, crafts.jpg

This book has a huge variety of crafts…101 of them. I love it a bunch of new ideas that go beyond toilet roll scrolls and sticking a cut-out of Zacheus in a tree. The crafts are divided into se7en sections: Old Testament crafts, New Testament Crafts, Story Telling Crafts, Memory Verses, People Crafts, Animal Crafts and Miscellaneous Crafts. And you know I love crafts and I especially love crafts that my kids can do on their own!!! Seriously… on their own!!! This is a practical no frills approach book… no fancy shmancy photographs, just straight talking: What you need; Where to relate it in the Bible and How to make it. A craft a page so there is no confusion between one craft and the next.

One afternoon last week when my older boys where out and every one else was home feeling rather lonely we settled down and chose a craft each… So here we go tried and tested crafts from this fabulous book…

  • A Traveller’s Notebook: How many times when my kids have studied Paul’s Missionary journeys and plotted a map and moved on… But here is something to bring it to life in a Traveller’s notebook from a packet of old stamps we had lying around.

  • David and Goliath Doorstop: Well ours is more a paper weight than a doorstop because our crafter wanted to use a stone the same size that David would have used against Goliath.

  • Jonah in the Big Fish: I knew someone would want to make this as soon as I saw it!!! He began by making a pipe-cleaner person from the people section in the book. And then glued some fins and a tail to a plastic bottle. Pop “Jonah” inside and you are done!!! Trust me this is Jonah inside the big fish.

  • A Story Puzzle: Draw your favorite story, and it is the time of year to draw a Nativity. Then cut it up and for my scissors queen that was heaven in itself. And then you are left with a picture puzzle to put back together again!!!

  • Moses’ burning bush: If you have a two-year old that needs a project then this is the one… Firstly there is cutting up of leaves, and the snipping can be ripping and doesn’t require exact cutting. The snipping is followed by copious amounts of glue and finally an art work worth brandishing about!!! And a very happy crafter!!!

There you go – easy kiddable crafts that don’t require twenty se7en toilet rolls overnight. Really all materials are things that are easy to get hold of… and a lot of fun crafts all packed into one book. This is a really great resource for any parents and teachers who find themselves in a “What’s to do?” situation.

As usual I have to thank CBD, our GiveAway book suppliers for another great book.
