Our book of the week last week was the Walker Book: The Ravenous Beast by Niamh Sharkey.
The thing that first gets you with this picture book are the illustrations – they are brilliant, appealing, bright and funny. In fact the illustrations tell the story until you discover the words.
This book is a fabulous read aloud book for young kids: Its got rhythm, its got rhyme, its got nonsense words and its got a line that repeats at the end of each page, that gets louder and louder and LOUDER!!!
“Now THAT’S what I call hungry!”
Anyway we need some fresh new pictures for our Book Nook
So here we go:
Step 1: We started with card and watercolors:
And everybody painted their version of a background.
Step 2: We needed some hungry beasts, so out with the markers and some fresh paper.
Draw away, draw away!!!
And here they are:
Snip them out and head back to the watercolor backgrounds which will be dry enough to work with now.
Step 3: We have a box full of pictures, snipped over time and ready to collage – for alphabet books and keeping little people happy sticking while we do school. And they are great for story starters. Anyway, pick and choose and pile them up… And get sticking:
Nearly done:
Add your very Ravenous Beasts to the feasts…
Munch, Crunch, Lunch. You are done!
And humble apologies to Niamh Sharkey for our creative license!!!
I haven’t come across this author before, her books sound great – love the illustrations, and since I have a daughter with the same name, I will have to go off in search of her books!
Hi D, We totally love her books – nice and nutty… Lovely name!
