  9. This week on Org Junkie’s 52 Weeks we are at Week 39: Fighting Procrastination.
  10. We are on a major road trip, well major for us… a fair number of days off into the wide blue yonder of Africa… visiting and staying in the home of a local family in Lesotho. We are half way there but when I woke up this morning this was all I had managed to pack…

I am the chief procrastinator at packing. I simply don’t do it. Many of you will know that I am so bad at it that… in the olden days when we first got married my very new husband asked me where my bags were to go on honeymoon… I said “What bags?” and I meant it … I had totally packed nothing. Indeed nothing has changed and this morning we had a row of water bottles on the kitchen sink and that was all… apart from boxes and boxes and boxes of school material – thanks to all of you, that I had packed as it arrived over the past couple of weeks.

I firmly believe that a project takes as long as you give it – so when folks ask me days before a trip if I have begun packing the answer is always no. But really I have it down to a fine art of super quick packing…

    1. Firstly I do start in advance, but not with packing… The last few days before a trip I spend a lot of time putting things back… back where they belong… until our house is completely in place. Every drawer, ever shelf, every closet.
    2. So I appear to be leaving it too late but actually my preparation to packing is key. Everything has a place and everything must be in its place.
    3. I make sure we have a novelty breakfast, something easy but different and in our house that is cereal. Place a bowl of cereal in front of each child and then dash from closet to closet going through the kids clothes.
    4. Our clothes are pretty minimalist at the best of times so I just gather a child’s clothes – each into their own shopping bag, and pop eight bags into one large bag. Done.
    5. An important thing to remember is that after a week in the great outdoors all our clothes will be grubby when we get back… So I make sure that everyone has one clean outfit in their closet for the great laundry day, the day we get back.
    6. I pack pretty much how we live, it just makes it easier as we travel to have a similar ethos wether we are home or away: Sort like things together. So a bag of pajamas, a bag for warm tops, and so on… That way we just grab the bag we need at the end of the day.
    7. Once everything is in its bag the kids are finishing their cereal and cleaning their teeth… at this stage the father person packs the car – because really he seems to possess some sort of Tetris gene…
    8. And the Se7en +1th thing

    9. Grab the toothbrushes and go.

    That’s us!!! Have a great weekend…

  1. I figure if you have clothes you can pack before you need to go, then you have way too many clothes!
I’m a late packer too, but, like you I like to get the house tidy before we leave. . . it makes things so much less stressful when you return.

  2. Wow! That is one way of packing 🙂 :)! I take forever to pack – I like your way better!

Our church just sent off 60 members to Lesotho too! I hope your travels are safe and wonderful! I know you are going to touch and bless many when you are their. I’m keeping you all in my prayers!

  3. I pack the same way. I have a rough list that I can tick off as I pack, just in case I get distracted half way through. It is all in the preparation. Clothes are washed and in cupboards, which makes packing easy. If I packed days ahead, I’d spend the whole journey worrying about whether I had actually packed certain articles. Moving house is pretty much the same, except I start a few days earlier. Books packed first and also the first to be unpacked! Its a sense of satisfaction!!!

  4. I can’t even imagine packing for 7 + 1 + 2! OH MY!!!! That completely makes sense… packing takes as long as you give it… I’m a planner (ie control seeker), so I’m always packed waaaaay in advance, but maybe that would change if I traveled more. 🙂 THANK YOU for your FUN FRIDAY posts– Such a treat!

  5. Oh Christine… Our return was indeed smooth unpacking wise, the laundry is done and we are straggling back to our reality – so many things where so different and we learnt so much about life, love and everything else… it is taking a little while to step back into our world!!! Trying to think about where on earth to start blogging about it all!!!

  6. Thank you Love and Lollipops… Our lives are changed forever, we had a wonderful time, hard work but lots of fun!!! I will get back into blogging this week and show you the ins and outs of our trip… Lots of love…

  7. Hay Cheryl, I am the master of distraction… so last minute is probably the best option for all our sakes!!! When we moved house previously I packed a box of books a day for a month… and unpacked them first so that it felt like home!!! A kindred spirit indeed!!! Hope you are having a great week!!!

  8. Hay KM, We are back… Traveling is good for us and suits our souls!!! It is good to be home though and we are chilling our way back into reality!!! I am loving your monsters… watch out for them this Friday!!! Lots of love…
