Se7en +1 Million Tasks for Multi-Action Floor Wipes and a GiveAway…

I could have called this post: The one where I show you exactly how filthy my house is… but I digress. I have said it before and I will say it again… as a blogger you get asked to review many strange things… many!!! And most of them I am afraid to say I turn down simply because “If I don’t use it, I won’t blog it.” Well recently I was asked by Dettol Cleaning Products South Africa to review Dettol Multi Action Antiseptic Floor Wipes… and honestly I don’t use them at all. But I reckoned we would be doing some spring cleaning soon and we would test them out for you – and give you the Yay or the Nay…

Now I am a firm believer in chores and this is how we roll most of the time:

I am also a great believer in keeping chores fun… So once in a while and you will see from the dirt, that it can be a really long while… I send my kids around the house, armed with a task that is totally not on the everyday chore list. Find something incredibly dirty and clean it – I confess for the most part they have been armed with wet wipes… because they are so good at cleaning. But we haven’t had wet wipes lying around for the longest time, we have moved on from the world of diapers and wet wipes are a distant memory!!!

But Multi-Action Floor Wipes, these could be the next best thing… and they do say: “Multi-Action Cleaning Power”… and Cuts Through Grease… So the race was on!!!

Skirting boards and light switches were conquered…

DSC_0082

Tooth paste splurges – tell me that we are not the only home to have toothpaste, on the floor on the tiles, behind the taps, across the mirror…

DSC_0036

And let us not mention what the bathroom sink looks like morning and evening after ten folk have cleaned their teeth… I think, even with strict limitations more toothpaste goes everywhere else than on the brushes… I will look on the bright side – at least they aren’t eating the stuff. Anyway – sink, backsplash, under splash – well every splash was left sparkling…

And for the friend that asked me if I knew what helped with mould on the bathroom ceiling, remember I did tell my kids to clean anything grubby at all…I can honestly say we have no bathroom ceiling mould, none of that – anymore… That was a bit of a surprise, clearly anti-bacterial is anti-quite a lot of things!!!

We moved onto artwork… My first five kids were very much “draw on paper” kids, my last three are all – ho hum – scribes. Can not resist a pen, can not resist a clear surface. Well the fridge, the beds, the kids’ drawers… are now wiped clean (don’t say ready for another day of arting… you may only think that!!!)…

We headed for the kitchen and here I am going to show you the grimiest grime on earth – don’t be eating your morning toast while you read this. But I did say we were going looking for the worst grime we could find. Also, we have a painter friend who told me that we should wipe our walls clean at least once a month, if not weekly – well believe it or not – and I blame my mum for this, it has never occurred to me to wipe the walls clean… weekly, monthly… Well except in the kitchen above the stove… this is why…

DSC_0011

Let’s take a look at our ancient stove more closely… I can actually see where one junior didn’t wipe!!!

DSC_0058

The cupboards were wiped and were literally gleaming…

DSC_0069

I have a collection of tins… and about every three months I take them down and wipe them – a seriously hard task… grime settles in kitchens…

DSC_0057

Well there is the unbelievable before and after…

DSC_0055

So time were wiped, oven wiped, wall wiped… and my worst – right above the stove (I know what planning genius thought of that – certainly someone who had never cooked in their lives before) our electricity box sits… there is a pretty ghastly before and after picture… As long as we have lived in our house we have never, ever been able to clean that box properly. Gotta say – that I am well pleased with that wipe clean!!!

DSC_0018

No where does it say on the packaging: Use to clean the grease and grime off a “who knows how many years old electricity box” and nowhere does it say use to wipe the mould (that we could never possibly have) off the ceiling… but I was guessing – anti-bacterial and all that!!! Actually, the directions are – since they are floor wipes: “To use with broom: Spread the wipe on the floor, move it around the floor with the broom.” Well none of my kids could co-ordinate this, since our broom was wider than the wipe. I don’t really mind that they are anti-bacterial – honestly a few germs are good for the soul and that isn’t a big draw card for me. The scent… well with five boys, I must say our bathroom now has an unusual apple smell that they all commented on… “What is that smell?” A little overwhelming for my guys maybe… but then other smells can be even more overwhelming for the rest of us!!! And when I read on the packaging “Keep away from children” and “Do not Swallow” … I dashed everyone off to the bathroom to thoroughly wash their hands.

I think what I liked was that they did achieve the claim: “Cuts Through Grease” – yes, even ancient kitchen grease!!! Would I buy them again… not for my everyday cleaning. My regular surface wiping and quick daily mop of the floor is actually sufficient for me. But for an attack on the really bad grease busters and creative artworks and dirty handworks on (nearly all) the walls, every couple of months… For a dash and a race of wiping around the house… well yes… these are a great buy and they really made the job a lot easier than the usual grind and scrub that happens when we spring-clean in the kitchen.

  1. I would be keen to try these out! We also have mould on the ceiling – neat Jik usually does the trick, but its very tricky to stop any drips from bleaching whatever or whoever is underneath!!! So it would be much easier to use a Dettol wipe!

  2. I will definitely be buying a pack from the shop (I may need to buy two packs to start with!) I’m just glad that I don’t have to post my before and after pictures!!!!

  3. I would use them to tackle my kitchen grime and a difficult to reach corner in my bathroom that looks dirty and is hard to get to. Thanks for the post and giveaway.

  4. I really need to tackle the stove and showing, oh and my ceiling. Good Job Se7en+1!!!!

  5. I would love to use them on the hood over my stove. I’m thinking it will be more fun to clean if the wipes have travelled half way around the world!

  6. Ooh, I’d happily give these a try on the floor gap between the dishwasher and cupboard where bits of left over food and coffee splash and stay forevermore. Perhaps a wipe pushed in there with a broom handle would do the trick.

  7. Wow… Well regardless we will be getting us some of these… Whoever thought it would be a good idea to put a kitchen cupboard directly above the cooking hob was clearly not thinking, the grime under there is a nightmare to get rid of!

  8. Just what we need!! The house we recently moved into had a farm of animals (yes even a massive pig!) that spent more time inside than out so u can imagine the mess they left and the floors, walls and skirtings are VERY grubby. My boys help out a lot with the house work and these wipes seem perfect for little hands to help clean up their new school room and my tin collection-snap!

  9. Oh my goodness, this made me giggle.
Baby wipes are pretty awesome cleaners – though I kind of stopped using them for babies as I discovered how good they are for cleaning other things (what do they put in them?!). Reassuring to know there’s something better out there!!

  10. Oh wow – I need these for my kitchen. But also probably only for the springcleans

  11. Would like to try this on my floors and especially the spaces between the cupboard a fridge, stove top and the wall tiles. A clean home is a healthy home hey.
