Two delightful picture books and a chapter book from Jonathan Ball Publishers… have been waiting patiently on my desk fr reviews… here they are, in all their glory!!!
A Better Best Friend
This is the story of a squirrel, who discovers a mushroom named Pock, and a series of events leads them to be best friends… it takes a while and they settle into their comfortable habits, and their friendship is full of gentle fun and kindness. In the spring an insect called Moo becomes another best friend…
Our squirrel is in a quandary, and then another best friend… what do we do with several best friends… and as gentle stories should, it all ends very well. I love the illustrations and adorable creatures getting on with their busy time together. This is a lovely, gentle story… perfect for bedtime.
The Sheep that Stole the Farmer’s Hat.
This is a lovely bouncy rhyming story about all the farm animals that steal the farmer’s clothes. One by one they steal his entire wardrobe, until the farmer has nothing left.
The goat used his shirt for a boat, the llamas stole pyjamas, and the cat took his scarf for his pet giraffe… The farmer is terribly sad and can’t come out to work. The farmyard friends feel bad and return them… except of course the shorts, that “somebody” ate. This is a delightful bedtime romp!!!
Time Twisters: Puzzle in Pompeii
This is a really fun “pick your own adventure” book, where the main characters are animals, that spin you back in history to the days of Ancient Rome and Pompeii. This is easy chapter reading at its best… with a wide variety of puzzles to solve, scattered throughout. This is the perfect type of book to launch a curious child from easy reading into chapter books.
At the end of each chapter the reader gets to choose the next step on their adventure, and so they wind themselves through the story… all the while learning about ancient times. I thoroughly enjoyed this and all the puzzles, because there are few things more fun than a book full of puzzles. Easy reading, easy learning and the reader gets to choose their journey… this book is a winner!!!
