- Oh will you look at the lovely surprise I had on Ohdeedoh this week… I am just reading my way through one of my fave blogs… and I am thinking gosh that looks familiar… turns out it was!!! Same picture landed on Organizing Junkie Week #21, to say I was a little bit thrilled was a little bit of an understatement!!!
- Ohdeedoh also had Melissa and Doug’s Play Food Round-Up, oh I just love and adore them. We have a couple and I tell you I insist on tidying the cooking toys myself – some call it tidying, some call it playing, whatever I just love them!!!
- And since we are talking about food, let’s just swoon over the felt food at Skip to My Lou, a birthday cake, a can of soup… just lovely!!!
- And if you are talking about food then you may as well talk about tea-parties…and whip up is your tea party friend right now… Everything is teaparty darling: tea party sewing, you have to see!!! and her newsletter is always packed with great goodies… take a peep!!!
- And since we are talking about tea-parties, well who in the world would have a party without a couple of pirates joining you… this week there was a brilliant pirate collection on the Crafty Crow!!!
- And pirates make you think of worms… And supposing you want to make a wormery this summer, then head straight over to the Sleepy Time Gal.
- And since we are talking about wormeries then you have to take a look at this collection of inspired container gardens on Kireei. Can you tell I am longing for Spring!!!
- This week on The Organizing Junkies 52 Weeks #21: Embrace the Empty Space.
And I know you are dying to know how our projects are going!!!
Project #1: The Great Photograph Deletion: Still going strong… deleting away… have reached “66 000-ish” photographs and started a new iphoto library… how liberating is that… the crushing staggering of my computer trying to cope under the burden of photographs is now under control… well almost. Everynight I switch libraries and delete a whole lot of photographs and then switch back to my new iphoto with a measley 200 photographs in it… I tell you my lap top feels like it is flying. Interestingly like most discarding once you get into it you do get better at it… it is a refining process!!! What was a keeper photograph last week is simply ordinary this week… and I would like to delete faster, but I know if I do then the job will become too big and I will grind to a halt. So 500 a day is the limit… and by the end of the year I should have halved my photographs… which makes me think I really should look at the ancient photos we have in boxes… that’s the thing about 52 weeks of decluttering… I am not content that I have a box of ancient photographs, instead of multiple boxes strewn around the house, to be sorted someday… this is the year and I would like that one box to be half the box it is and filled with photographs we love… Here are some old old photographs for your perusal…
And look what I found: That’s our beach viewed from above our house, it has been a while since we have been up there…
Project #2: The Garage: It was just too cold to venture to the garage this week and rain means that it is even colder and damper in there… though I did squash a couple of boxes and I did manage to get quite rid of a few of the large items looking for homes… yay… so it is clearing!!! And I found this box:
It is my filing cabinet exactly as it was when I left work – fourteen years ago!!! I thought I had got rid of it years ago…and was quite proud of the fact that I didn’t have any lingering boxes… I take it all back!!! It was quite fun to take a trip down memory lane to see what was so important back then. But to be honest, since I had already mentally thrown it out it was fairly easy to send all that paper off to recycling. Really if I ever need any of that again I can get it from a library… no need to keep it all… Well except for some geology notes that one of the kids wanted desperately.
Project #3: Maintenance: And a completely unsuspecting project arose that had very little to do with me and more to do with boys… boys and their treasures. If you have been following our 52 weeks you will know that before we began school I went through everybody’s treasures with them… tidied, sorted and confined it to a shelf or a drawer per child. I have to say the girls’ drawers look exactly the same as six weeks ago. But the boys – ho hum – less so!!! The only piece of consistency was the containment… otherwise well a picture says a thousand words…
The amazing thing was that given the task, they were each able to empty the space, discard what was unworthy, sort what was left and return it to order…
And it only took about half an hour for each of them…
The best part was, that I had nothing to do with it, other than initiating the project!!! I think they may have mastered the process. Well I am hoping!!!!That’s us… Hope you have a fabulous weekend!!!
And the se7en+1th Thing…
