Did you know that Struik Nature has a collection of Apps in the App Store and for a number of their field guides they have an App available and it is really worth investigating them in the Mobile App section of their website. The apps can be downloaded onto your phone and used as field guide when you are outdoors. This app has proved to be a great resource, no need to carry a heavy field guide in your backpack and with it downloaded onto your phone, no need to be within an internet access area, you can literally be out in the wild.
This App is based on Stuarts’ Field Guide to the Tracks & Signs of Southern, Central & East African Wildlife. If you are looking for more books on tracking then The Tracker Manuel from Struik Nature is fantastic. And for a small book to pop into your backpack, you cannot beat the Quick ID Guides.
Stuarts’ Tracks & Scats SA: Identify tracks, scats & signs
We recently received Stuart’s Tracks and Scats of South Africa to review… and it has turned out to be invaluable. Last week on a hike in the Cederberg we were fascinated by the number of tracks we were discovering and it was so useful to have this app downloaded onto my phone. The app is very easy to navigate and use out in the wild… you select the type of spoor, you select the appropriate animal and off you go.
Here is an example of the Cape Leopard Spoor we found… we were so excited to learn more about it, since we knew we were in Cape Leoperd Trust Country.
And a little one!
And what the App had to say…
And the scat…
And the App…
There are numerous photogrpahs and illustrations to help you determine what you are looking at, you really cannot go wrong. This is an excellent resource and we thoroughly enjoyed using it.
This App was given to us for review purposes by Struik Nature. This is not a sponsored post and opinions expressed are entirely our own.
