Se7en Million Teeny Tiny Bird Houses…

November 17th, 2010 · 30 Comments

We started making little tiny birdhouses out of matchboxes, and very quickly it grew into a village, and it would have evolved into a city. A metropolis in fact, but we had to stop and have supper…

So here we go in Se7en Steps:

  1. We emptied out our matchboxes of matches and covered them in white paper.

  3. Once we had a blank box to work on we used markers to draw and turn them into the little bird houses.

  5. We made sure there was a little door in each one and an adult cut the doors for the birdhouses…

  7. Then we decided that our birds would need some indoor facilities!!! So we made little pictures to go into each house: little tables, chairs, beds and so on…

Have a look at the tiny details…

    And the whole collection…

  9. Now all houses need a roof… so little strips were cut and colored and folded…

    And folded…

  11. Then the we added on each roof!!!

  13. Then let’s meet the Poms. These are our little birds, they are tiny pom poms. Little eyes and a beak were popped on with a marker…

    And the Se7en + 1th Step:

  14. And finally they were popped on the door to be admired… and I am not sure how but as always a little bark version was added in to the mix!!!

And here is the gallery…click on any image if you want to see them bigger…

And Hood #3 thinks they will make fabulous teeny, tiny Gift Bags…

And all the houses needed was some street numbers and it would make a super cute advent calendar… just pop open the doors on the day…

They are so cute. I’m not surprised that no-one wanted to stop. Definetly going on my list. To do with the children, of course. Although I’m quite tempted to get started without them!

What a wonderful idea. I am fairly time poor but wanted to do a Advent count down to Christmas. This is a wonderful simple idea, which i will work on this coming weekend. Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

Hi Felicity!!! This worked so well, really easy and I could leave the kids to do it on their own while I cooked supper… Except for the door chopping every time someone finished one!!! I hope it works out well for you!!! Have fun!!!
