Hi there… We missed you all but it was so good to have a week off!!! What can I say – clear skies and December looming…
We needed a break… just a bit of peace was in order… and posters weren’t enough!!!
So we gathered our water bottles…
And took a trip in our untrustworthy steed…
And we went looking for blue skies…
We drove…
And drove…
And drove some more…
We wound our way…
Up hill and down dale…
To places far…
From the world of internet…
And zero cell-reception…
To a slice of quiet…
And a house in the country…
The nearest neighbors were a couple of goats…
And were they hungry…
It wasn’t just a trip to the country but a trip down memory lane… way down!!! Because in the olden days when I was very short we used to visit the same spot… and we ate at the same table and I am sure it was about ten times bigger then!!!
But I remember the bushes billowing over my head and I remember the dam was as wide as an ocean… times change, what can I say!!!
We finally met our cow!!!
And other associated farm animals…
We went on night hikes…
And had camp coffee…
We went trailing…
And tracking…
We discovered beasties…
And plants…
We had braai’s every night…
And turned roosterkoek into pizza…
Mostly we went exploring…
And clambering…
Swimming in every possible waterhole…
And more hiking…
And exploring some more…
And hunting…
And exploring some more…
And hiking through strange lands…
And caving…
And clambering…
And stretching…
And hiding…
And hiding some more…
And looking at the view…
And through the window…
And dashing around…
And discovering…
And sweltering…
And recovering…
We played some Uno…
And did some painting…
And Bananagrams…
And some more painting…
And some more Uno…
And whizzed through the Kindle:
And waded through a book shelf of ancient readers digests…
And our book of the week… has to be my Italian set work book… who knew I could have read the whole thing in English on a bookshelf in the country… we read these stories and laughed out loud, typically bittersweet!!!
Hood #1: Followed the rules and made sure that he was never out of sight!!!
And he makes a fire just like his mother – Woosh… A son after my own heart!!!
Hood #2: Dragged his sister fishing every day!!! And she willingly followed!!!
And spent hours scavenging for ancient artifacts…
Hood #3: Was always happy to be at the destination of a hike than actually on a hike!!!
Hood #4: Is still the champion feather finder!!!
And spent his time doing research in the spotters guides…
Hood #5: Was the dreamer of dreams…
And the gatherer of lots of stones…
Not to mention the best lizard on the block…
Hood #6: Was in heaven…finding creepy crawlies everywhere!!!
The teller of tall tales:
And the stealer of hats!!
Hood #7: Was the cutest hiker and the bravest explorer!!!
Hood #8: Discovered rivers…
And happy hiking…
And the tap… he just loved that tap!!!
And now we are home drinking tea and eating rusks…
And the reality of holidays…
Is sorted and packed away…
Would we do it again? In a blink!!!
