There’s a Friendly Spar Wherever You Are… And A Fab GiveAway…

A couple of weeks ago we got a really surprising email… from Spar!!! And they were offering an offer to our readers that we couldn’t resist… They would let us try out their Freshline Range of Products, which consists of fruit and veg products as well as the bakery… And they gave us voucher to share with our readers in a GiveAway. There was no catch!!! Just a very pleasant surprise… Now we have been dreaming of a Spring Picnic for the longest time… ’tis the season!!!

Here is how it works: They provided us with R200.00 for a shopping spree and to try out their products, and they would give us a R300.00 voucher to share with a South African reader in a GiveAway…

We waited for a fabulous spring day… for a picnic… it has been too rainy, too windy, too chilly, too something… but we were not put off… and headed for the store…

Everyone got to choose their favourite fruit for a fruit feast…

And did they discover some treats… Don’t kids love granadilla’s and kiwi fruit and pineapples and peaches and melon…

And then we stopped by the bakery… Hmmmm there was so much to choose from!!! This was indeed a fun shopping experience!!!

Can you guess what they chose? Nope it wasn’t two lovely ciabbata – I chose those to go to make cheesy garlic bread to go with our dinner…

They chose pretzels!!! And was I so glad there was enough stock for everyone to have one!!! Because I tell you there is nothing worse than being one or two short…

So that was our picnic feast, that we had at the kitchen table with nice warm tea – because the weather out was just too inclement!!! The fruit was feasted on, the apples became a pie and the oranges juice… and we still had those garlic loaves for dinner. So I was quite surprised how far a R200.00 voucher could go… really we were quite laden!!!

The question is: Where is your favourite picnic spot?

So here’s how the GiveAway works:

For one of our South African readers we have a R300.00 Spar voucher, to spend at any one of their stores nation-wide.

And we wouldn’t want out overseas readers to feel left out… So join in and we will send one of you a packet of locally grown rooibos tea…

All you have to do is leave a comment and tell us your favourite, favourite, favourite picnic spot in the whole wide world… and mention if you are a local – or not so local reader!!!

This GiveAway works in the usual way, comment before the end of Sunday 28 October 2012, and we will draw and publish the winners after that. We won’t respond to your comments as I do on our other posts because we don’t want to be included in our own giveaway.

Our GiveAways are open to everyone: If you have won a GiveAway before never fear – enter away. If you live on the far side of the world – enter away. Good luck and happy commenting!!!

We wanted to say Thank-you to Spar for inviting us to join in with your Freshline Promotion… we were thrilled to play along!!! And thank-you to the Cape Quarter Spar for a fabulous friendly shopping experience, totally undaunted by eight kids and a shopping cart!!!

Disclosure: We were given a R200.00 voucher to spend at Spar to try out their Freshline Range of Products and we were given a R300.00 voucher as a GiveAway Prize on our blog. We were not paid at all for this review and the opinions were entirely our own, as usual!!!

  4. My favoutite spot is still Kirsenbosch gardens; but of course the beaches are fine, too!

  5. Local – has to be the KZN midlands Meander for me, love the peace and beautiful green outdoors.

  6. Seaforth beach in Sea Point is our favourite picnic spot, loads of grass near a beach where the children can run without losing site of them and normally some penguins and seals to keep us entertained.

  7. Fellow Cape Town resident here! My favourite picnic so far was with my hubby on the top of table mountain watching the sunset! The kids favourite spot is on the beach (Muizenberg or Fishhoek)

  8. Hmmm, for years I’ve dreamed of that favourite picnic spot and a few times I thought we had found it. But then last Dec we popped up to visit friends who own a caravan park in KZN and there across the river was the most beautiful tree, with the longest grass and a swing hanging from it. The view is of the river on the one side and the Drakensberg on the other. A day spent with kids picking wild black berries, swimming in the river and swinging with that view…. Finally our spot was found!

  9. Hmmm – local, ok. On Kloof Corner, overllooking Camps Bay at sunset.
a bit further afield, though, in the Namibian Dessert.

    devoid of jealous eyes 🙂

  10. The best picnic spot is the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens in my beloved Jo’burg. But my mom’s garden comes a close second 🙂

  11. Our favourite picnic spot must be Kirstenbosch or on the beach at Kommetjie (the food can get a bit sandy there 🙂

  12. Our favorite picnic spot in the autumn and winter is our living room carpet. One day is the beach, the next one a jungle and the next the moon 🙂 We would love to drink some rooibos tea on it 🙂 Thanks for the give away 🙂

  13. If I had to pick a place close to home it would be the Botanical Gardens in Pietermaritzburg.

  15. My favourite picnic spot is Umhlali Flag Farm in KwazuluNatal. I’m from Durban. When I visit Cape Town I love a picnic at Signal Hill and Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens. I have tweeted this giveaway as well. Twittername: online61524

  16. Lower Silvermine area (where my fiance proposed!) surrounded by beautiful fynbos, the river that flows in season, the mountain to one side the ocean on the other, one of my favourite places to go 🙂

  17. ok this might sound odd but my favourite picnic spot is the lush green lawns in front of Howard College at UKZN! Its high up, so the view is made up of the whole of durban and the harbour laid out in front of you, and on a sunny Durban day pure perfection 🙂

  18. Tokai is our family’s favorite picnic spot. After a run/ride on the bike trail we enjoy a snack supper while the kids build tree forts or look for tadpoles.

  19. I really like Wynberg Park or even Maynard Park in Wynberg. Plenty of shady areas and there is a park for the kids so I can be lying on the grass and watching them at all times. Beautiful photograph opportunities as well.

  20. SA: My favourite picnic spot is in the park opposite a house we used to stay in in PE. Lots of great memories were made there 🙂
