In my first post on Advent I mentioned what we would be doing for everyday as Christmas draws nearer and nearer…

Advent Day 15: Monday
Joke:
Who delivers presents to baby sharks at Christmas?
Santa Jaws
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: The Prophets, roses.
Christmas Carol: Lo, He comes with Clouds Descending.
Christmas Preparation: Nothing!
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Paper Stacking Trees.
Wild Card: Went for a long drive in the country – delivering a package for a friend – it should have been awful but it was lots of fun… it helped to have lots of treat surprises!
Advent Day 16: Tuesday
Joke:
Why does Father Christmas like to work in the garden?
Because he likes to hoe, hoe, hoe!
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: Jonah – a whale.
Christmas Carol: Angels from the Realms of Glory.
Christmas Preparation: More nothing and still not stressed about it!
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Rainbow Flyer Kitty Toy
Wild Card: Did a wild craft catch up as The Crafty Crow got away from us! And visited friends for lunch which extended to all afternoon of playing round the pool and lots of very tired hoods collapsing into bed at the end of the day.
Advent Day 17: Wednesday
Joke:
What do monkeys sing at Christmas?
Jungle Bells, Jungle bells.
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: Elijah – fire.
Christmas Carol: Hark the Herald Angels Sing.
Christmas Preparation:
Bella Dia Advent Craft: White Chocolate & Peppermint Spoons. These were totally valid and we will definitely do them again and again and again!
Wild Card: Well since it is the season to build memories we looked at some… The Hoods have never seen lots of the photo’s from before they were born… we have lots of travel and then those wedding ones… Somehow there is never time for this – so I grabbed some and we looked and looked and looked!
Advent Day 18: Thursday
Joke:
Why are Christmas trees like bad knitters?
They both drop their needles.
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: Esther – scepter.
Christmas Carol:
Christmas Preparation: Went on a reconnaissance with the kids, ambled through a number of stores (purposefully took no money to avoid irrational spending!) and picked and chose what we liked for friends and relatives… slow ambley speed in preparation for the mad dash on Saturday.
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Magical Miniature Wonderglobes. I just couldn’t face this craft… I figured by the time I found all the materials we will have lost the enthusiasm to actually achieve it! We made glittery stars from The Restoration Place instead:
Wild Card: Went to visit Granny with the wonderful garden – they have been asking for this for weeks and finally they got their chance.
Advent Day 19: Friday
Joke:
What did the bald man say when he got a comb for Christmas?
Thanks, I’ll never part with it.
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: Solomon – a castle
Christmas Carol: The Gospel Brings Tidings.
Christmas Preparation: plotted and planned our gifts and materials we would need to buy to make the ones we were making.
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Festive Fairy Light Votives.
Wild Card: We very carefully locked ourselves out of the house and didn’t have keys to get out the gat either! So we had to spend an entire day in our garden, with all our library books. Actually it was great fun – an unexpected adventure! No camera – no pictures!
Advent Day 20: Saturday
Joke:
Why was Cinderella such a poor football player?
She had a pumpkin for a coach.
Game Played:
Jesse Tree: Samuel – a lamp.
Christmas Carol:
Christmas Preparation: Did all our Christmas shopping, friends, adults, kids – everything… took from 9 till 12 – with one long break to run on the grass and have a drink in the middle. Not to mention the reward of grabbing a tree on the way home. Hood #6 had passed out into an exhausted sleep only to wake up and say: “There is a forest in the car.”
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Fancy Felt Dog Collar. I am saving this one for a day when we haven’t done all our Christmas shopping and a triathlon.
Wild Card: We did a triathlon just for fun – very easy. Asked some good friends over. We swam a bit, we biked a bit and we ran a bit. Everyone got a medal for their efforts.
Everyone went home tired from their great sporting action – and content… The hoods have been asking for this for years and it was so easy I don’t know why it took me so long!
Advent Day 21: Sunday
Joke:
What do reindeer say before telling you a joke?

Game Played:
Jesse Tree: John the Baptist – a sea-shell.
Christmas Carol:
Christmas Preparation: Sorted parcels into piles (easier said than done with lots of eager onlookers).
Bella Dia Advent Craft: Glittery Foil Icicles.
These are a nice quick craft and look so pretty – We only gold glitter but I don’t think the hoods are any the wiser regarding the color of icicles!!! We come from Africa you know and have never experienced an icicle!!!
Wild Card: Had our Cookie Swap Party – it was so hot that I never took any photos – not one. And nearly no-one came. It turned out to be a lovely time with just a few people and we still managed to donate 12 dozen cookies.
That’s it – we are in the home straight. Advent is nearly over, which is a bit sad because it has been such fun!
