Yes we have a giveaway… Season’s of Womanhood by Jean Gibson. This one is for the mom’s that read our blog, I was so thrilled to get this book as a GiveAway to share with you all…
As moms we often feel hard done by – stuck looking after little people all day, cute as they are… another load of laundry and a sink full of dirty dishes is waiting, again!!! This book is to encourage you, it is a collection of essays on the lives of a number of woman at various stages on their journey through life. Oh, how we think “the grass is greener over there.” We do wish ourselves into other folks lives and we do think other folks are having more fun and being more glamorous and going out more, traveling more… doing more, or even doing less – you name it and they have it.
There is nothing like a biography to snap you back to reality, to see how much you have and to look at the grass growing on your own side of the fence just a little bit more carefully. The women in these stories are not incredible media mums with incredible lives, they are not celebrities and in fact, to be honest, unless you are related to them you probably would never have heard of them.
What do these women have in common? That’s a very good question: There is a teenager caught up in political gangsterism and alcoholism; a husband who doesn’t want to live with his wife because she is a christian; A single woman going it alone; a wife who can not conceive; a mom with an eating disorder; another mom suffering from post-natal depression; an older woman with Alzheimers; a wife coping with her husband’s degenerative disease…
What do these women all have in common? All these women, like us, have is a story to tell: A story of pain and loss, of overcoming, of friends reaching out to them when they were low. Regular women, with regular dreams and hopes and fears. These are the stories of ordinary women, that just show us their is no such thing as an ordinary woman. Not to mention there is an awesome God, who stands by them… who sends them a supporter and encouragement. I loved this book and read it straight through this evening, I was relating to these women on so many levels and I think you all will too, This book should have “great encouragement” stamped on the cover… Maybe not a celebrity book, maybe not a #1 bestseller… but a regular read with a great message of hope… We are not alone on our journey through life.
This GiveAway works in the usual way, comment before the end of this coming Sunday, 27 May 2012, and we will draw and publish the winners next week! I won’t respond to your comments as I do on our other posts because I don’t want to be included in our own giveaway.
