You know how we like to celebrate… and the great artist Alexander Calder had a birthday recently. Since most of our kids have never ever been to a circus we made ourselves one, in a suitcase… Just like Alexander Calder’s.

We started with some face decor… because some of us like to get into the spirit of things!!!

Then we read a book – don’t we always… and this is a fabulous book… You can read it online at WeGiveBooks.

Then we hauled out heaps of equipment…

And wires and nails and buttons and beads and real tools… because they are such fun…

And then we got to work and before we knew it we had a lion:

And an orchestra…

A clown…

And some dancing girls…

And elephant…

And a strong man…

And with a few streamers and sparklers, mini bunting and balloons…

We were ready for a dramatic performance, that easily fitted into a suitcase… One of those projects that are all about the process!!! We spent an entire morning making bits and pieces for our circus and I can see our suitcase is going to be packed and re-packed…

Meanwhile if you are looking for inspiration then take a look at the video of Calder’s Circus…
And if you are looking to celebrate then look no further… there is always time for a circus party in se7en steps.
With some circus pinata’s:

A couple of clown faces…

And a paper circus…

And that’s it… Heaps of circus fun!!!
What an amazing looking circus!
