The weather has been grim…

And glorious…

And grim…

And beautiful…

but grim won…

And the stoic neighbours dog presiding on the roof whatever the weather…

And dinners out at the food market on cold cold nights!!!

And lots to look at while they munch…

But whenever the the sun came out we have made sure that we have dashed out…

Exploring our world…

Far and wide…

And enjoying the sunshine…

Otherwise there has been construction…

And traffic jams…

And play…

And mudlarking…

And Lego worlds…

And potential campouts…

And days where the only thing to do was read books in bed…

Piles and piles of books have been consumed – the library is just loving us!!!

There have been hunts for spring…

And days just a little full of action…

Just too much!!!

My kids have been mastering the art of quiche…

And no-one is complaining… as long as you call it pie!!!

There has been milk and cookies…

And family feasts…

And more cooking skills conquered…

And more hunts for spring…

And secret forts…

And a birthday…

And treats…

And associated shopping…

And a gentleman to carry the parcel…

And a trip to Kalk Bay…

For the inevitable ice-creams…

And road works…

And nutters… who think if the sun is shining then one must swim…

And trips to Charly’s Bakery… because one must!!!

And visiting friends…

And would you look at the most adorable oven on earth…

Full of details…

And the sweetest easiest house guests in the world…

Turns out we really like folk coming to stay, especially if they bring their babies!!!

Lots of learning…

And plenty of artwork…

And this is the artwork of the week…

Plenty of books…

In fact a whole lot more books…

Our Book of the Week:

This is obviously the year of war stories as we have read through the War Horse, Hero on a Bicycle and now Soldier Dog. This one has quite mature feelings and emotions at play… and as usual my kids discovered that I can shed copious tears and read on… and I discovered that they can listen with tears streaming down their cheeks, whispering read more, read more… The central hero in this book is a young man of fourteen – so we could all imagine him well… and how is life intertwines with his dog. A classic case of a family on distress and not communicating with each other… the young man ends up fighting to find his brother at the French Front… in fact the whole family ends up looking for each other and a frantic search was they continuously miss each other all the while fighting a crippling war in the trenches. Sad but excellent, packed with life lessons, brimming with emotions and hope and eventually all turns out for the good… as good as it gets with post war survivors. This is a brilliant read and right up there with one of our favourite books of the year… This book was given to us by Pan Macmillan South Africa to review. The opinion is entirely our own!!!
And this is what the Hoods have been up to:
Hood #1 and Hood #2:Lego wars…

Hood #3: Joined the world of spectacles and oh what a wonderful difference it has made… I love those first days when they discover that they can see everything clearly…

Hood #4: Started eye exercises… and within two weeks his reading pile went from piles of quick facts…

To reading epic novels… A tell you an annual trip to the eye-doctor can be life-changing!!!

Hood #5: Is all about baked apples..

And Jigo’s…

Hood #6: Icing cookies…

Hood #7: Our little doctor…

Finally has her own baby and is looking after it so carefully!!!

And the se7en + 1th…
Hood #8: Our little clown…

Has just figured out that he can make it quite tricky to get a photograph!!!

And if you are wondering what I have been up to and in case you are still reading… and in case you think we are always so organised… this is my achievement for the week… I just rearranged the lounge… well actually the whole house!!!

Somewhere under there is my laptop – that and a very erratic internet supply meant that I couldn’t reply to emails!!!

Not just the lounge… the kitchen vanished under my attack…

All because I had to rearrange our school books…

To make space for our new boxes!!!

So yes, you can expect a box post from us any time soon!!!
And that’s us… Hope you all have a great week!!!
Yea, you got them!!! Fun! Our first week went well, and now I’m off to start the second one. Have fun!
