On the 14 of February was International Book Giving Day and we launched a challenge to our readers to raise a library book by book for a small township school. Last week we posted an update for you as well as a list of Book Giving Projects from all over the world… And I thought you might like a progress report… But before we head into what’s happening I thought I would show you the why… So many folks have asked us why in the world we would do this…and the simple answer is…
For the Love of Reading – The Joy of a Good Book
My kids have so very much. Books galore. They have easy access to a library, where we take out heaps of books each week, we have a granny that gives my kids books at every opportunity, their school consists of piles and piles of books… My children are literally surrounded by books. Not only that, they have experienced the joy of books… you don’t have to be able to read to love books… books can transport you, whoever you are to anywhere… But we live in a part of the world where this isn’t actually the norm. There are people we know that don’t have any books. Children are raised in homes without books. They go to school without books. They are nowhere near a library. and they grow up without books. And I know I have readers that just can not imagine this, because let’s face it, it is beyond belief that in this day and age every child doesn’t own at least one book…
A Library Begins…
There is a township, outside Stanford…
In the township there is a pre-school…
And our readers have been busy… Books have been ordered, packaged and sorted, boxed and sent…
Thank-you to The Reader’s Warehouse for a whole box of books!!!
And here is the library…
Growing…
Book by book…
