A Sunday Snippet packed with things I keep meaning to share with my readers and then the week slips away… so here you are…
- Irene Howat’s Story A Month Club: Remember a year ago when we interviewed Irene Howat… Well I spotted this on Christian Focus 4 Kids: Irene Howat’s Story of the month club. It’s a web-based book club that shares the stories of famous christian missionaries … Each story comes with a printable pack… and you can take a peak at the first month’s sample right here… All about David Livingstone, lots of fun to read and puzzles to puzzle over. Take a look, I think this might well be something fun to sign my kids up too.
- Jesus on Every Page, the Podcast: Just a couple of weeks ago we had a GiveAway and a book review of David Murray’s new book, Jesus on Every Page. Well here is a fabulous find for folks who would like the book… a podcast packed with interesting resources… quotable quotes, relevant books and papers to read for digging deeper and reader questions… and a discussion on the theme. Interesting listening and well worth a follow…
So far there have been two podcasts, and all the podcast notes are up on Head Heart Hand for for easy linking:
Listen away!!!
- And now for a signed Josh McDowell GiveAway:
Supposing you need a break and you love the idea of getting lost in a really good book… this one is for you!!! I have read other books by Josh McDowell, but to be honest I had no idea that he wrote fiction, it came as a complete surprise to me. I sat down after lunch to browse through the book. I would read just the first chapter, then the second… and suddenly I was two hundred pages in… I couldn’t put it down and read on right through to the end.
The wife and daughter of an extremely wealthy Egyptian have been kidnapped and held for ransom. He pays the ransom and his daughter is murdered… Millions more are demanded in exchange for the return of his wife. That’s in the first paragraph. The head of the security company he has employed, to find the perpetrators is in his office with a photograph showing the wife withdrawing the ransom from a bank account on the far side of the world. All is clearly not as it seems and, just as the photograph is revealed so the wealthy tycoon is assassinated and Marwan Accad, the security chief, escapes as the only witness, a bullet in his shoulder and a team of assassins after him. Now he is a man on the run for his life… the criminals are one step behind and the police are further behind. That would be the second paragraph.
The book has numerous twists and turns, the drama rises and falls and rises some more… it is a very fast read. Unlike many novels written by christian authors, one doesn’t feel like the gospel message has been placed in the text as a contrived little side-track that must be there. Amidst the gritty and fast-paced story… the gospel message is woven through the story in a way that makes it part of the story and real. A classic set-up, an international conspiracy, and a race against time… this book is unputdownable and a great read… if you need a holiday then this book would be a most fantastic escape for a couple of hours!!!
The GiveAway
We have a signed copy of Josh McDowell’s The Witness to GiveAway. This GiveAway works in the usual way, comment before the end of this coming Sunday, 7 October 2013, and we will draw and publish the winners after that. I won’t respond to your comments as I do on our other posts because I don’t want to be included in our own giveaway.
Our GiveAways are open to everyone: If you have won a GiveAway before never fear – enter away. If you live on the far side of the world – enter away. Postage takes forever from here but eventually it should get to you! Good luck and happy commenting!!!
As usual we have to thank Christian Book Discounters, who supply Sunday Snippet GiveAway books for us to review and GiveAway. We are not paid to write our reviews and the opinions expressed are entirely our own.
