This is our book of the week: My dad read it to me when I was a kid and we are reading it again for school… one of those, “Just one more chapter” books…
And this is what each of the hoods got up to:
Hood #1: Was victorious…
And made some DNA…
Hood #2: Discovered new heights…
And survived more school:
Hood #3: Continues to read and read and read…
Hood #4: A hole heap of mudlarking…
Hood #5: And this one did make the effort to take his shoes off – I won’t mention the socks…
And busyness…
Hi Se7en, Great picture, as usual!
I noticed one of the Hoods with his copywork from a LA 1 activity sheet in the picture. Have you typically done “everything in the IG” for Language Arts for your kids, and how has that worked for them in learning to write? I always buy the LA, but have only used some of it. I’m always supplementing with other stuff. The writing often seems like too much too fast with not a lot of instruction. I’m just wondering if doing it SL’s way is truly enough. Thanks! Lillian
Hi Lillian… For learning to write we use handwriting without tears… and about half a page of that a day… very little writing but I want it to be perfect!!! And that is really all I do for handwriting. They do quite a bit of other writing but I don’t call it handwriting and I am focusing on other things when they do it. They usually write either a very short story, journal entry, history story or bible story on a given day!!! Typically we do indeed do absolutely everything from the language arts program but I don’t think of the copywork so much as handwriting (can you tell from the photo!!!) but as language arts – here I am concerned that they copy the correct spelling and punctuation, if the handwriting is forgotten in the process I will turn a blind eye!!! Now language arts used to have two or three pages of dictation a week – with the words printed out nice and big for them. They don’t anymore, just the one and extra dictation is in the IG, I would prefer the extra bits were printed nice and big as well because we do copy work rather than dictation… and my kids won’t touch it if it doesn’t come on a yellow sheet!!! I realize my reply is way too long and I should probably organize this thought and then post it!!! For what it’s worth I hope this helps!!!
