One of Cape Town’s Best Kept Secrets… Bakoven.

Chances are if you live in the South Peninsula then you are pretty close to a beach… this is our beach in the heart of summer, pretty busy…

That’s Fish Hoek on the False Bay side… warm water, family friendly beaches… And then there is the Atlantic side, with cold water, trendy crowds and beaches like this one: Camps Bay. It is also pretty crowded.

But in between busy beaches you can still find little beaches with nobody else around at all!!! Bakoven is one of them. Seriously how heavenly is that… the trouble with this beach is parking – there is hardly any… but on a school day if you get there really early you can find a parking spot and declare a beach day!!! Oh yay!!!

No surfers were harmed in the making of this post!!! And luckily for me, one surfers big brother couldn’t have been happier to provide his little sister with so much surfing joy again and again and again!!!

  1. Thanks to your previous post on Bakoven, we found our way there after an event in Camps Bay on an extremely hot day. The freezing water is just the thing for a day like that. Just half a minute in there and we’re cooled and all moaning ceases and treasure hunting follows.

  2. Hay Olivia, So good to hear from you again!!! Isn’t Bakoven a treat… we used to go their for supper when I was a kid and I have just been reintroducing my kids to the delights of a treasure filled beach!!! Hope you have a great week!!!

  3. Looks wonderful! It is still very cold here, so staring at these beautiful scenes warms me up just a bit. We can’t wait for spring and summer to arrive!

  4. I dream of living close to the beach, my country has plenty of them but I have always lived between mountains. I envy you. And, how sweet is that older brother?

  5. Hi Karen M, So glad we could share some sunshine with you!!! I am going to hold onto summer as long as I can – seriously I love summer and never want to let it go!!! Hope you have a great week!!!

  6. Hi Ana, Good to hear from you!!! Yes that is indeed a fine big brother!!! We have been lucky to live within sight of the sea our whole married life – just love it!!! Hope you have a great week!!!

  7. WOW! What a wonderful spot to hang out and play during the summer. It is really BEAUTIFUL! I wanna come visit!

  8. Hay KM, You would so love a visit to Cape Town with all your kids!!! Put it on your list of things to do in your life… Along with groceries and laundry, a trip to visit Se7en could really make a “to-do” list so much better!!! Hope you are having a great week!!!

  9. Hay Lucia, Isn’t it great!!! In one of the busiest parts of Cape Town where tourism and people are at their height and it is always chaos… you find this sweet little beach surrounded by incredible houses of the rich and famous – mostly empty for the better part of the year… and it is totally peaceful and perfect!!! Just lovely!!!
