After weeks of being sick and a slow recovery we decided that we needed a week as a bit of a refresh for all of us… I know we could go hiking and exploring and adventuring… visit little museums… all of that. Every time I mentioned we were heading out, folks had a couple more ideas of things to do in the country… well we achieved nothing on the to-do list – because that is what you are meant to do when you escape to the country – totally nothing!!!

So we left home… we were off and I have to say most folk are thinking “If I lived there, I would never need a vacation…” But trust me, from time to time we all need to get away and a escaping from a seaside town in the Summer is often a very good idea!!!

And the first stop out of the city was the “padstal”…

Lots to see and tons to look at…

And rows and rows of treats… couldn’t resist all the spices!!!

And a road trip…

Blue skies…

Can you believe the blue skies!!!

Endless blue skies!!!

And combine harvesters…

And hay bales…

More road…

And even more road… all the while listening to Danny the Champion of the World.

Some roadside companions…

And a little larger than life…

And I am always on the lookout for a house in the country!!! Could this be it?

Or this one…

And another rest – under the birds that looked like sheet music!!!

And an introduction to some real live farm animals…

And a drive through Hermanus, famous for its whales…

And it was really windy and not whale weather at all… but that little puff of smoke is indeed a whale!!!

Meanwhile, we stayed in a little village in the country, Greyton, and turned a few heads… I don’t think they are used to a family of se7en + 1 kids arriving in their small town… and we bought out all the bread in the bakery five mornings in a row!!!

And it is a village packed, packed with little houses in the country…

And the sweetest village…

And a sloot for watering… that intrigued my kids…

And flowers in the hedgerows…

And little streets leading to new adventures…

And we even discovered Lassie… wandering down the street!!!

And interesting stores…

Showing their wares…

And a village market…

We had to have some cheese…

And the highlight… A river well worth exploring…

And some very relaxed adventuring…

With mudpies:

A rainy day for games…

Rescued by Hot Chocolate…

And cooking outdoors every night…

And cooking in a wheelbarrow…

And catching up with fabulous friends…

And the most brilliant muffins…

And wouldn’t you love the view from their bedroom…

And wheelbarrow races…

And I may well have found my house in the country… under oak trees!!!

A girl can dream!!!

And of course there were mechanical problems… wouldn’t be a road trip without them!!!

But we made it home safe and sound and I cannot believe a whole week has flown by… I can say that we are ready already for another week of ambling in the countryside!!!

That’s us… hope you have a great week!!!

Beautiful! What an incredible country we have!
What fabulous views! Did you stay in the lovely thatched cottage? I’m not surprised the week flew past so quickly.
HI Jerusha, So right – don’t you just love road-tripping through it!!! Can never get enough of living under African skies!!! Hope you have a great week!!!
Hay Cheryl… That lovely thatched cottage was at the end of the street we stayed on… and we loved it!!! Not to mention twice the size of our present home and a lovely wild-ish garden that went on for miles!!! And a real working chimney… I could go in!!! We loved it!!! Hope you all have a lovely week!!!
Looks like you had a great time – and just the break you needed.
Oooh we love Greyton, stayed many a wonderful weekend there…so glad you had a good time 😉
Thank you Zoe, it was a treat indeed… just exactly what we needed – we have to do this much more often!!! Hope you aren’t too cold over there!!!
Hay Shells, it was our first visit – we didn’t even know where it was until suddenly we were there!!! A lot closer to home than we expected!!! And really lovely!!! Hope you have a brilliant week!!!
