The month of June was a great month for running… Not to mention I have to love a campaign, especially one that is dear to my heart and all about rivers that flow into the sea. This year on World Running Day we joined Mina Guli on her World River Day running Campaign.

Mina Guli Global Water Warrior
Mina Guli is a ecowarrior and a global campaigner, who works and runs to raise awarenwess of the World Water Crisis. Her campaigns are world wide and we always love to join in. This year our family has had the amazing oppertunity to be the country captain for South Africa, it has been a fantastic for us to encourage friends and runners from far and wide to run miles towards protecting and conserving our water.
The great thing about all her campaigns is that they are so inclusive… you can run, walk… literally crawl; you can amble round the block and you can scale mountain peaks… whatever works for you. And considering that we have all sorts of athletes… from super athletes to plodders, and I won’t mention who is who, it is something we can all take part in… even the pup.

World River Run
My super athlete lads spent the week of the campaign, running all over Table Mountain… following rivers and basically living their best lives… but when a friend, @curbbeachplastic on instagram, asked if we wanted to join her and some gals running the Silvermine River… from the source to the sea… we couldn’t join in fast enough.
Many years ago, when the gang were much smaller we hiked the Silvermine River from the source to the sea. Definitely time to head out again…

From the Source to the Sea
We all met up at the start… and I was lucky enough, as a Balega Impi for 2021, to giveaway a couple of pair of the #bestbalegasocks… as one does!!!

And then the runners were off…

My speedy lads took a whole group of runners on a 21km run, along the Silvermine River… down to the sea.

And I set off to hike the route with my youngest kids…

We went exploring, up and up…

Trying to get as close to the source as we could…

And then down, down, down and down…

Past the reservoir…

And the waterfall…

It was the perfect day for it…

The runners got there long before us…

Then they came back to find us…

There was all sorts of natural beauty around us…

And protea season for sure…

Good time spent together, a pause in the busy day to day, just to stop and appreciate the world around us.

Couldn’t be happier for a day spent in the wilds…

Thinking about protecting our water source as it flows down to the sea… healthy rivers would go a long way to a healthy ocean…

Stopped to do some plogging…

And then down to the sea…

Thank you so much to Mina Guli and the Thirst Foundation for another fantastic campaign…

Another campaign that the whole family could be part of and, honestly, we can’t wait for the next one…

Follow Mina Guli on instagram, to learn about her next campaign… and follow Curb Beach Plastic, for her stunning art, and I know she is going to be incredibly active during Plastic Free July.
