So this is Clifton… World renowned beach, playground to the rich and famous… crisp white sand, gently lapping waters, sheltered from the blustery south easter. The place to see and be seen. Certainly one of the best beaches Cape Town has to offer. Really a little piece of heaven on earth. And while you are there don’t forget to sit and admire the really rich and famous offshore on their yachts.

This is the sort of beach you go to as a student, in order to celebrate your last exam of the year. And a great place to have sundowners all summer vacation. That’s a time in your life when you don’t mind icy water, you aren’t there to swim anyway. You won’t mind the parking, a ratio of ten cars to every one parking spot. Not to mention clambering a couple of million steps down to the beach and up again afterwards.

So on a hot hazy and miraculously wind-free summer day in Cape Town we all headed for Clifton.

But we didn’t have a parking problem.

An opportunity arose and how could we refuse… so we gathered ourselves and a couple of good friends. We packed a picnic and headed off…
Out of Cape Town harbor. Past whales, sunfish and dolphins – really!!!

Some chilled out more than others!
Along the coast and past Sea Point and out on the open ocean…
Finally (!) after hours of enjoying the good life we arrived in Clifton…

Ready for lunch and a braai (barbecue!) off the back deck… and swimming…
And paddling…
Did some shipping stuff..
Got busy watching hang-gliders…
A siesta…
Then some Hoods took us home…
And a little one played in the wake…
And the day was done… and home to our reality of Lego catamarans and new dreams to dream.
Thanks to The Alley Cat for a wonderful, wonderful day.
