Super Quick Jam Tart in Se7en Steps…

January 27th, 2009 · 3 Comments

What can I say you need a really really quick snack that a se7en year old can easily make on their own and it looks so impressive! This is what we are aiming for:

Let’s Meet the Players:

Now you can make your own jam and you can make your own puff pastry from all natural ingredients for a professional event or you can have some staples that I absolutely always keep in our cupboard so we can whip this up in two ticks.

  • A Jar of Jam
  • A Roll of puff pastry

Let’s Play the Game:

Step 1: Gently roll out the pastry on a floury surface.

Step 2: Place a plate on your pastry and cut out a circle. Place your circle onto a greased baking tray.

Step 3: We added a dash of lemon juice into our jam – call it creative license or finesse! Then pop the jam onto the pastry and spread it around. Not quite to the edges.

Step 4: Pinch the edges over to make a pie rim.

Step 5: With the remaining pastry cut some thin strips and make a criss-cross pattern on top of the pie.

Step 6: Now at this stage their is a whole lot of pastry left over and a whole lot of eager siblings… and Valentines Day is looming so let’s quickly make some puff pastry jam hearts:

Every body stamps out two hearts a big one and a little one: stamp. stamp, stamp…

Place the bigger hearts onto the baking tray, dab a teaspoon of jam into the middle of the heart and place the little heart on top…

Step 7: Pop everything into the oven at 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) for about 15 minutes, until it becomes golden brown.

And that’s it!

Well done Hood #3.

Oh and lets not forget our hearts!

Don’t they look yummy!

So glad you like it – I love baking with my kids. Cooking is the one survival skill I plan for them to grasp before they leave home. Any others would be a lovely bonus!!!
