Se7en Make Toffee Apples…

June 19th, 2010 · 10 Comments

We have been getting a heap of apples in our vegetable box just lately… my kids love and adore apples but for once they didn’t all vanish the day they arrived!!!

We were keeping with our Autumn theme and decided to try making toffee apples. I have never made them before – I thought they were really tricky, turns out they were really easy!!! This is what you are aiming for:

Let’s Meet the Players:

1 cup of brown sugar

!/2 cup of water

1/2 teaspoon of vinegar

2 tablespoons of golden syrup

2 tablespoons of butter.

A couple of apples.

Lets Play the Game:

Step 1: Pop your water into a pot and add the sugar. Slowly dissolve the sugar over  low heat.

Step 2: Add the vinegar, syrup and butter to the dissolved sugar and gently stir it through.

Step 3: Bring it to the boil and let it bubble away without stirring for about ten minutes. Amazingly it doesn’t boil over.

Step 4: While you are waiting poke a stick into each of your apples.

Step 5: Drop your toffee into a glass of cold water and it should solidify straight away. If it doesn’t then just keep on boiling your mixture a little longer.

Step 6: Swirl your apple around in the toffee.

Step 7: Leave them to cool on a lightly greased plate…

And you are done!!! This was such quick and easy fun!!!
