Saturday Spot: SlangKop Lighthouse for a Tramp…

Forget Autumn, forget drawing in the great outdoors, I declare it freezing, wet and Winter.

So we took ourselves out…

That’s what do you do when it is so cold that you can barely breathe and it isn’t actually raining…
DSC_0308

You step outdoors for a tramp… Along the boardwalk…

At Slangkop Lighthouse in Kommetjie.

And that’s exactly what we did… We didn’t touch the water…
DSC_0425

You know when you touch the seawater and get an instant headache, well that’s how cold the air was…
DSC_0321

So cold as to quite immobilize…
DSC_0331

Never mind, just brace yourself and keep on moving…
DSC_0300

Really you have to be moving…
DSC_0311

Running…
DSC_0404

Jumping…

Hopping…

Leaping…
DSC_0313

Freezing…
DSC_0377

Even the birds were cold…
DSC_0340

Too cold to actually land…
DSC_1332 - 2011-05-28 at 16-23-53

Keep on flying…
DSC_0341

And as for the bride… I felt for that girl… two weeks earlier and that photograph might have been bearable…
DSC_0448

Even a local dog carried a blanket…
DSC_0417

Some of us were not so affected by the weather… aaaaaaahhhhh….
DSC_0387

But I noticed rather a lot of running about…
DSC_0452

So much so that she ran right out of one picture…
DSC_0453

And into another!!!
DSC_0456

We were all astonished to see a rabbit – don’t they hibernate?
DSC_0394

And the flowers…
DSC_0356

Well they aren’t called red hot pokers for nothing.
DSC_0364

Meanwhile: Once a horn blower, always a horn blower…
DSC_0361

And their was some serious Kelp collecting…
DSC_0413

And I sense another kelp horn project in the near future.
DSC_0430

And I am so glad that this young man left his suit jacket in the car. So glad, since that kelp smell can be kind of – ho-hum… pervasive…
DSC_1349 - 2011-05-28 at 16-40-47

That was a really easy walk… just follow the poles…
DSC_0442

And keep moving…

After weeks of just one more swim, and just one more walk, and just another last swim… We will be headed back indoors and to gym this week. Luckily we can’t wait… me for the coffee and others for more energetic pastimes!!!

  1. yes, i do declare that is was Headache-freeze kind of weather. And that little Hood with flip-flops and the thinnest shorts who stood shivering was just too cute for words. Thanks for a great outing.

  2. Hay Irene… Thanks for the visit!!! Hopefully the chili chocolate will keep you just a little warm!!! Have a great week!!!

  3. Hay Sam… So right… interestingly all but one of my kids had long sleeves and jeans on… pretty unheard of!!! It really was icy cold and they loved it!!! Thanks for stopping by!!! Have a great week!!!

  4. No consolation to you, but I think Spring has not quite decided whether to stay here yet. We had drizzle all day. I think April and May got mixed up on our calendar. Your walk looks so interesting. I love the kelp.

  5. Oh Cheryl, You might love the kelp!!! They dragged home mountains of crisp dried kelp… but it has torrented with rain ever since and our front garden is strewn with mountains of squelchy, slimy kelp and the pong… well if we had health and safety I would call them!!! Actually it is just too cold and stormy to step outdoors to do something about it and the entire city will most likely grind to a stop as only those essential workers actually step outdoors!!! Hope you guys have a fun fun week!!!

  6. Hay Steph…Oh I am so not built for the cold… I fear I lament too much!!! We haven’t had a ton of winter but what we have had is so intense!!! And we are such wimps!!! BRING BACK the sunshine… !!! Have a fun week!!!
