It is a bit past Sunday, but here is this weeks GiveAway…
I know Father’s Day is looming and every body will be looking for great Father’s Day Gifts… Well I know our father person would love this book. It isn’t a “lovey dovey book” packed with blessed thoughts. It doesn’t have se7en million ways for a man to be a better father or a better husband. How often have you heard 1 Corinthians 13 read at a wedding and how often have we thought how sweet and how lovely… and that’s the last you think of it. This book is about True Love, but not in the cliche “overused” sense of the words.
This book, written by James Reniham is a book about True Christian Love, it is a series of sermons he gave on the topic in a small, gift looking book. It is written from a theological perspective – what is True Christian Love after all? The Chapters are short and readable and challenging!!! And would be great for a Bible Study or Quiet Times.
One of the reviews on the back cover claims this book to be a profound and lively study… I did find it profound and very though provoking. But I confess it wasn’t very lively (for me!!!), I found it quite tricky to read it required a bit more attention than my distracted “mother of eight-ness” attention span, then again it is so good to stretch the brain sometimes!!!
I think the Chapter that spoke to me most was on Chapter 13:6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. While we may not actively delight in another person’s sin, and I don’t consciously celebrate another one’s failing, how often have I thought: “Told you so,” or said: “Well you got what you deserved.” While I don’t celebrate someone’s failing in the sense that I have a party but I may indeed “share an anecdote” that isn’t very loving – AT ALL. I came away from this chapter feeling somewhat indicted. Knowing that it requires a fair amount of determination not to look at others faults. Indeed he ends the chapter with: “The most powerful means of putting away the bad is to put in the good. May God help us to rejoice in the truth.” This is clearly why I have to carry the Bible Verse: Philipians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things, around in my brain at all the times!!!
