New Year and the A new tree. For those of you who are new to our sight that tree is our weather calendar, each branch is a month of the year. A blue leaf for rainy days and a green leaf for sunny days. We are in mid-summer and there should be plenty of green leaves… And finally the wind stopped blowing and summer arrived in full force… yayayayayay!!!
This photograph pretty sums up my week… out of focus!!!
I know we are back in school but I should be working mighty hard to put something into our Sketchbook… so I have begun and ummmm when on earth am I going to finish this and postmarked by Friday… but we have begun… and deadlines are good… but school may not be quite the focus of this week coming!!! Trouble is I am finding all sorts of things that “need” doing… sorting out sorted things and cleaning cleaned things and um… well anything except the sketchbook and moving on…
There was time for lizards…
And picnics…
And visiting “oats”… goats to you and me!!!
And more lizards…
And “amels”…
And swimming in the dead of night…
And cricket…
And um too hot for cricket…
And easy dinner… you can disguise anything you find in the fridge with pasta and parmesan….
You are never too young to help with dinner around here…
Someone has to count the blueberries…
And somebody has to eat them all before anyone else gets a look in!!!
And hundreds and thousands more t-shirts because suddenly everyone wants one!!!
And outings…
And there was arting:
And more of the same… (that is not a real frog on the floor behind them!!!)
And bubbles…
And serenading… a miserable lad who decided to get a really high fever and be totally blue for two days and then spontaneously recover as little people do!!!
And the event of the week… A girls only braai… barbecue to all Non-South Africans!!! They were quite tentative at first… nothing like the guys, who I am always hiding matches from…
But they quickly got into the hang of it!!! Just like their brothers…
And went off to play games… now guys would never step away from the fire, not even two feet to play games, they spend the entire time poking and prodding and feeding their fires!!!
Well girls play games while they wait for the fire to be ready to cook on…
And then being girls they sneaked chocolate into the roosterkoek… While the guys whipped up a bunch of salalds.
And by the end of the day they weren’t tentative anymore, just rather pleased with themselves!!! Meanwhile no photos of the boys because I was staying well away, while they did all the end of day chores: folded laundry and put it away, tidied and swept and set the table… They discovered just what it is their women folk get up to while they play at the fire!!! Role reversal … very amusing to see… and we will definitely do it again!!!
And the arty offering of the week a gift of Lindt chocolate and pet rocks…
And stories…in the shade after lunch…
And a trip to the library…
And our book of the week, well we found a Julia Donaldson that we hadn’t read before…
We love Julia Donaldson her books always have a charming twist that means the parents won’t mind reading them again and again and again!!! The troll is seeking a tasty goat but none come tripping over his bridge. The pirates are following a map and looking for treasure… how will these stories every join up… well there is a fishy ending!!! My kids loved it!!!
And this is what the hoods got up to…
Hood #1: Made sure the Lego never slept…
And whipped up some fossils…
Hood #2: Helped his little brother feed the “oats.”
Hood #3: Is no longer waiting for her mother to help her with her crafty projects… she discovered this pretty box and packed in her sewing goodies and she is off…
Hood #4: Well he is the feather champion…
And the builder of homes from home…
Hood #5: Consumer of watermelons and drinking all the juice…
And now that he is reading has become the Kindle master… whoever finishes school first gets to read on the Kindle…
Hood #6: Arting, arting, arting…
Hood #7: Kept sneaking off to read books…
Hood #8: Found the coolest spot in the back yard sink!!!
And don’t blame me for this face… bueberries weren’t enough he then tucked into his fathers chocolate!!!
That’s us!!! Hope you have a fabulous week!!!
I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy your blog posts! I have just recently discovered you and have dug through some of your archives and am always inspired. Tonight two of my children read your post with me. We had to look up what Braai and roosterkoek meant. My son has made me promise to barbecue some of the roosterkoek. We live in California so we are in the middle of winter here. We are also new to homeschooling and sonlight so I have gleaned so much from your sonlight posts. I just wanted to say thank you!!
We got your postcard today!
Hay Dana in the middle of Winter… boy do we have an image of California as always sunny skies and surfers!!! Thanks so much for stopping by and all the best on your Sonlight journey. We have totally loved ours!!! Have a good week!!!
Hay Jess – wooohoooohooo!!! Joy and Happiness… hopefully folk will remember what they were about and hopefully a couple more people round the world are starting to get them!!!! Lots of love!!!
So that’s why the leaves are different colours! I just thought you grabbed the nearest pen!
Oh Cheryl… Nothing is random…. except my mind!!! Off to gather myself for tomorrow!!!
That is the beauty of California. Currently where we live this week it is below freezing.
