So Rhino’s are a critically endangered species, and it is our quest to see one in real life and more important we would like our children’s children to see a real live Rhino. At the moment one Rhino is poached every twenty hours. This is an alarming number. We decided to launch our Save the Rhino campaign last week. 22 September was World Rhino Day and we celebrated with a couple of projects…
- Learn How to Draw and Measure a Rhino: This website teaches you how to draw a rhino… and then you can colour it! After reading how big an adult rhino is, my kids reckoned they are about the size of a parking bay and they set to work… with the giant sidewalk chalks…
- Learn on-line: Save the Rhino has a fabulous website for kids with great links and printables: The fabulous facts, and their ecosystem. Learn how to be a rhino ranger and see what is in a rhino rangers backpack.
- Wear a Rhino: Wearing a rhino will get folks chatting about rhinos and that is just what we need to get folk thinking about the plight of these animals.
- Make a rhino out of clay: And then play with them for hours and hours…
- Trail some rhino foot prints: And we found our rhino eating parsley…
- Read About Rhino’s:
- Pack a Rhino Bag: and go on a picnic… We love these bags from Woolworths, they pack a conservation punch!!!
- What can You do: Last week and this week we have a number of fabulous GiveAways on our blog. If you would like a second chance to win a copy of any of the books: A donation, even the teeniest amount to our Save the Rhino Campaign gets you an extra entry into the GiveAway.
And in the plants on the kitchen sink…
And the se7en + 1th…
Here are the GiveAways if you want to take a peak:
That’s us… Hope you all have a fabulous week!!!

Huge Fan of Se7en + 1 – you are nuts!!! Hope you and your kiddo’s have had a wonderful week!!!
Hi Se7en+1,
I thought of you today because one of our daily shows on National Public Radio had a show on the African elephant and the ivory trade. The guests also mentioned the Rhinos and how dire the situation is for both animals, particulary in South Africa. If you are interested, the show is called “The Diane Rehm Show” and you can listen to past shows on their website (in your copious spare time!) Here is the link to the show I am referencing: http://thedianerehmshow.org/shows/2012-10-02/environmental-outlook-elephants-and-ivory-trade.
Now I’m off to print out your October calendar and fill it up! Thanks for all the inspiration!
Brenda, Thank you so much!!! I so appreciate that… I will have a listen just as soon as I have all my little ones in bed!!! Enjoy the calendar, hope you have fun with it!!!
