So close to the finish of our Thirteen Peak Adventure. This Peak has to be one of our favourites ever… and I know we say that about all of them… but little friends asked us if they could join us… and instead of a trudge… it was an absolute joy!!!

Constantia Nek to the Dams

Of course it was an early start…

se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image

But little friends made it all seem sweeter…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 2

But the sunrise made it all worthwhile…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 3

And what started as a clear morning… was quickly turning cold and grey…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 4

The trick with this very popular route up Table Mountain…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_2644_result

Is firstly, to start early…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_1000

And secondly, make it to the bridge…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 14

The little section just before the bridge is the steepest and once you have got there it is smooth sailing the rest of the way.

Klaasenkop and the TREE!!!

The turn off to this peak is at the start of the dams… and the only people we found on this path were less than a handful of folk looking for the peak to tag. It is really quick and easy walk around the side of this peak and then through the rocks to the top.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0073_result

At this stage it had become cold, wet and windy… inclement to say the least.
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0069

This peak comes with a warning… and I was more than a little nervous… I have to say if 13 Peaks doesn’t up your bravery game, several times, then nothing will…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0991

I had heard so much about the tree and how impossible it was to cross it…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 21

If I have learned nothing more… it is hold yourself together until you get there and then assess for yourself if it is possible or not…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0094

Send some fellow climbers ahead…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0049_result

And don’t be afraid to ask for advice or a helping hand…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0094

And then boom… it wasn’t glamorous,
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0033_result

But I did it!!!
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_2645_result

The weather was wild and literally hanging on for dear life…
se7en-13-Mar-21-Whitagram-Image 27

What a team…

Down Nursery Ravine

Another hearty breakfast on a mountain top… hot chocolate, fruity muffins and sausages for the win…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0101_result

And then a wander across the mountain top…

se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0163

Towards the top of Nursery Ravine.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0082_result

And blue skies…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0107_result

All the blue skies…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0109_result

This is very much a down, down, down and down route…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0122_result

I am sure there are people that can do it well…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0116_result

But I have never been one of them…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0149_result

The first part is rocky and tricky and then into the forest you descend…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0139_result

I cannot understand why we always pass so many people making their way up this route (let alone down), there are way easier ways up Table Mountain.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0147_result

That being said… the forest is beautiful…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0148_result

And butter spoon trees…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0133_result

This is not a family favourite… up or down, and we were pretty glad when it was over.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0154_result

And this is where our little friends left us… absolute champions…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0153_result

Along the Contour Path to the Start of Nursery Ravine… and then Out Through Nursery Forest…

We thought we had done the hard part for the day… and a little trot along the contour path would see us to the finish. This was not the case…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0192_result

Turned out to be much further than we thought…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0161_result

Sigh…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0187_result

And don’t for a second think that contour path means flat…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0340

There is a zig zag section, called the 400 stairs… more like four thousand stairs… and here we had a close encounter with a swarm of bees… not funny at all.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0208_result

It is incredibly beautiful and foresty…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0380

Interspersed with loads of scree to clamber over on tired legs…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0190_result

It is impressive stuff…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0195_result

And as I said before there is always a kicker at the end of every segment… just to remind you that you are becoming a 13 Peaker… and the scree was the kicker for us.
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0191_result

And here is a little tradition of ours… when we know we are close to the finish… within half an hour of the end of our journey… we down packs and eat everything in them. It is a massive morale boost and exactly what we needed at this stage…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0198_result

But onto the board walks…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0213_result

And we made it to the bottom of Nursery Ravine…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0209_result

Where we would start our next hike up to Peak number 13, Devil’s Peak… the last Peak of them all.
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0483

We dropped down into Newlands Forest… and were done for the day…
se7en-23-Mar-21-DSC_0515

Carried all the way by our Balega Socks…
se7en-13-Apr-21-IMG_0218_result
