This past week was the Annual Penguin Promises Walk organised by the Two Oceans Aquarium and Penguin Promises. The official walkers walk all the way along the Southern Cape coast… they walk all week and eventually end up at Boulder’s Beach in Simonstown. They welcome walkers along the way and it is our family tradition to join them on the last stretch of the walk. Well this year, with all our daily ambles, we found it to be a really easy walk. I have to say we had so much fun, there were plenty of distractions and we didn’t notice the distance. What a fabulous day out…
So we set off, always worried that the walkers are going to catch us and fly past us… we gave ourselves a little start…
And then found ourselves way ahead, with plenty of time on our hands…
So we stopped to look at the historical landmarks and read all the information boards put up by the historical society… I am all for being tourists in our own town…
We took a look at the local fishermen’s beach houses…
And decided that they might be nice for a weekend away!!!
And we partook in our new and favourite sport this past summer…
Train Spotting
That’s what happens when you read The RailWay Children and start taking daily walks beside the train tracks over the summer…
Waddle for a Week
And then they caught up with us, familiar faces from years gone by.
And they were a little distracted…
The Navy Festival
And Planes… An Air-show!!!
Back to the Waddle
And just a little stopping of the traffic…
And a walk through all the artwork in town…
A couple of photographs…
And we made it…
Boulder’s Beach
We were treated with a visit to one of our favourite Beaches… it does look like paradise…
And little friends to welcome us… because this is all about the penguins…
And one very happy walker… recovering!!!
But we walked some more… along the boardwalk…
Past these serious little fellows…
And their friends…
The Penguin Colony
Penguins as far as the eye can see…
Incredible really…
And because by now our feet were feeling the pain… we were given a ride to the station…
And a little entertaining on the platform…
And a long, long, long, long wait for the next train…
the weekend of the Navy Festival and the whole of Cape Town was avoiding the traffic and crammed onto the trains…
Little people always seem to find a good spot…
And home again, home again… until next year…
Beautiful! I also love being a tourist in my home town. There gems to be discovered when one is intentional about it
Love all the photos of the planes and of the penguins and of all the (little) people – couldn’t resist all the p’s.
Hood no. 4 looked very dapper 🙂
Thank You Mrs FF… Yes, we love traveling so much and often the best places to travel are right at home. It is so easy to forget to explore at home… but you really do have to be intentional about it!!! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you are having a fabulous week!!!
Oh Marcia… you would have loved the walk and taken dozens and dozens of photographs!!! And yes Hood #4 loves his suit, and wears it every day but an invitation to dress like a penguin is just his best, irresistible!!! Dapper indeed!!! One more day and the weekend is here, thinking of you.
Wow! Look at all those penguins on the beach!!! How Cool!!!
Looks like incredible fun
